The Boys S5 E6: A Game-Changing Betrayal & the Power of Immortality (2026)

The Boys Season 5, Episode 6: A Betrayal That Changes the Series Forever, But with a Twist

The Boys Season 5 has been a long time coming, and Episode 6 finally delivers the climactic showdown between the team and Homelander. But, as the saying goes, there's no such thing as a free lunch, and this episode comes with a catch. While the episode is packed with intense action and emotional moments, it also raises questions about the show's direction and the motivations of its characters.

One of the most intriguing aspects of Episode 6 is the exploration of death and aging. The episode is heavily preoccupied with these themes, which is fitting given the deadly supe plague and Homelander's thirst for immortality. The return of Paul Reiser as The Legend, the disgraced former Vought media mogul, adds a layer of depth to the episode. Reiser's interactions with M.M. reveal the deep discomfort at being the architect of a potential supe genocide, and his final scene with Homelander is a powerful moment of guilt and reflection.

However, what makes this episode truly fascinating is the way it plays with the concept of immortality. The introduction of Golden Geisha and an entire rest home full of aged supes provides a dumb but entertaining fight scene and some cute moments between Geisha and Kimiko. But the Geisha storyline takes a more somber turn as the episode wears on, particularly after the introduction of her old beau, Bombsight. The eternal curse of immortality and the pain that comes when only one half of a couple possesses it is a compelling theme that adds depth to the episode.

The episode also builds on the fun with the Vought supporting cast, with more fun with the Ashley and Sister Sage subplot. The physical comedy routine that is Minifie's 'Back Ashley' performance is a highlight, and it's nice to see the series finally focus more attention on Sage after relegating her to the background in the first half of the season. Sage finally severs her ties with Vought and the Seven and makes her play, only for things to uncharactristically not go as planned.

The Deep and Black Noir rivalry takes an amusingly dark turn, with Deep learning the hard way he never should have screwed with his bro. The episode milks the situation for all its worth in terms of both comedy and tragedy, and I'm all for watching Deep suffer. The grand finale sees the hunt for V1 come to a head, with Soldier Boy having his violent reunion with Bombsight. However, the key moment where Soldier Boy makes his choice and gives Homelander the V1 feels a little forced, and the show doesn't quite justify the notion that Soldier Boy holds this much affection and hope for Homelander.

In conclusion, The Boys Season 5, Episode 6 is a strong installment that delivers the exact blend of gross-out humor, action, and superhero drama we've come to expect. While the episode is packed with intense action and emotional moments, it also raises questions about the show's direction and the motivations of its characters. The only drawback to 'Though the Heavens Fall' is that the grand climax hinges on a character's decision that doesn't feel fully earned. Still, that act sets the stage for a very exciting final two episodes.
