A bold new vision has been unveiled for 1040 West Belmont Avenue, courtesy of Kiferbaum Development Group and Jonathan Splitt Architects. The plan? To transform the site into a vibrant mixed-use development, replacing the current Giordano's outpost with a modern, five-story building.
But here's where it gets controversial: The project aims to fill a gap between two existing three-story buildings, potentially altering the neighborhood's character. The design includes a 4,429-square-foot commercial space on the ground floor, divided into two storefronts, and 28 residential units above. Residents can enjoy small balconies or a shared rooftop deck, while the building's exterior will feature a classic red-brick façade with cast-stone accents.
This development joins the ranks of similar projects in the area, like 925 W Belmont and 1215 W Belmont. However, the real twist lies in the affordable housing component. Six of the residential units will be designated as affordable housing, which could be a game-changer for the community.
